Guiding Principles

  1. 101 Lindsay Road Working Group Principles (that apply to the use of the land) were established in 2022:

    1. The activities undertaken on the land will be ones that enhance the mana and wairua of Whangamatā, all people and the surrounding environment.

    2. This land is held and utilised for the benefit and greater good of the entire Whangamatā community and the residents of the Southern Ward.

    3. This land is to provide a space for community activities including, but not limited to: education, social connections, cultural activities, environmental protections and entrepreneurial programs.

  2. We have worked as a collective and will continue to work as a collective in order to provide a dedicated space that promotes cultural preservation, community engagement, community social services, events, and education provision. Decision making will be made based on our primary and secondary aspirations as outlined below:

    1. Our primary aspiration is to establish a modern, state of the art Marae facility that will benefit the whole community of Whangamatā and surrounding areas.

    2. Our secondary aspiration is to utilise any additional land available for health and wellbeing outcomes that are complementary to the aspirations of the Marae.

  3. Tikanga will inform our governance decision making as per Section 15 of the Marae Trust Deed

    1. 14.1 In respect to the Wharenui and Wharekai facility precedence will always be given to Tangihanga, regardless of any other bookings.

    2. 15.1 The Marae will follow Tainui Tikanga including Tauutuutu for Powhiri.

    3. 15.2 Tikanga and Kawa of the Marae will be established in consultation with local iwi and hapu.

  4. All prohibitions included in Section 17 of the Marae Trust founding document will be adhered to as the governing prohibitions for the entire site.
